iRefer tracks a successful referral by one of the following two methods -
1. Sign up Referral
Referred friend clicks on the referral link and also signs up to your referral program. Referrer receives a successful referral credit.
2. Specific Action Referral
Referred friend clicks on the referral link and completes a specific task on your website. Referrer receives a successful referral credit.
Sign up Referrals
When a referred friend clicks on the referral link and also signs up to your referral program, this is considered a signup referral and it would trigger the referral rewards. Signups could be either through our signup form or your signup form. If you are using your sign-up form, either you can use iRefer API to register the new signup (along with referrer detail) to our campaign, or you can use our automagical signup method.
Specific Action Referrals
When a referred friend clicks on the referral link and then completes a specific task on your website, this is considered a specific action referral and it would trigger the referral rewards. You can specify this specific task as a webpage address on your site that marks the completion of the specific task. For example, if your specific task is creating a new account with you, then you could specify your dashboard or my account page address for the referral trigger. This could also be a Thank You page after they have purchased something from you.
By default referred person's identity is not tracked by iRefer for the specific action type referrals. Since the specific action happen on your website without using iRefer form, we can't track it by default.
If you want to track the identity of the referred friend, then you can pass their email ID as part of the URL query string on the specific action completion page. The required query string format is ?firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also pass user's name with parameter name vsu_visitor_ext_name.
In this case duplicate customer email check is enabled, and duplicate email entries are blocked.
